State National Insurance App
Native iOS and Android for a specialty P&C carrier—policy access, documents, and agent workflows without desktop lock-in.

Context
State National Companies is a specialty property-and-casualty insurer known for lender services and program (fronting) services, operating nationwide. It is part of the Markel Group. In that environment, mobile is not a marketing accessory—it is a channel where agents and policyholders expect the same sobriety they associate with the core brand.
Overview
We delivered a native iOS and Android application that supports structured access to policies, documents, and account-oriented workflows. The product is intentionally narrow: screens map to tasks people repeat (find coverage details, open documents, move a request forward) rather than a feature catalog borrowed from unrelated consumer apps.
Challenge
Insurance users often reach for their phone when something is time-sensitive or inconvenient on desktop. Fragile mobile web, cluttered navigation, or ambiguous security cues erode trust faster than in almost any other category. The work had to feel credible to both end users and internal stakeholders reviewing risk and support implications.
Delivery approach
Nightcoders implemented native navigation stacks, focused information hierarchy, and restrained visual language so primary tasks stay obvious. We aligned flows to real insurance work—policy and document access, agent-oriented paths where applicable—while keeping the surface area manageable for authentication, session handling, and long-term maintenance.
Technical & operational notes
Native shells buy predictable document viewing, stack-based navigation, and session patterns that are difficult to replicate reliably in generic wrappers. Keeping flows intentionally limited reduces attack surface, simplifies store review, and keeps support playbooks honest when something goes wrong in the field.

Operational value
Strong mobile delivery in regulated industries is measured in supportability and trust as much as star ratings. This write-up reflects what we built and how we approached it; we do not claim downloads, conversion lifts, or revenue outcomes we cannot independently verify. If you are scoping similar work, the useful next step is a conversation about identity, document handling, and release ownership—not a feature spreadsheet in isolation.
