Make Every Drop Count
A civic-style conservation hub: messaging, resources, and mobile-first structure for regional water programs.

Context
Regional water agencies and utilities in Southern California run conservation education in parallel with rebates, restrictions, and seasonal messaging. Public audiences skim on phones; boards and partners expect tone that is serious without alarmism. Campaign properties have to stay editable as ordinances and programs change.
Overview
We built a responsive hub that organizes conservation narrative, calls to action, and supporting resources in one coherent place. The structure assumes most visits are short: people want to know what applies to them, what to do next, and where to read more if they need depth.
Challenge
A single site had to speak to residents, commercial users, and partner organizations without collapsing into generic environmental copy or an unstructured document dump. It also had to remain maintainable when communications teams rotate and messaging shifts mid-season.
Delivery approach
Nightcoders structured IA and UI around scanning behavior: concise lead-ins, clearly labeled sections, and progressive depth for users who want more detail. Typography, spacing, and navigation were tuned for small screens and outdoor brightness—not desktop-only assumptions. Content blocks were organized so non-developers can refresh top-level messaging without rebuilding templates.
Technical & operational notes
Front-end structure prioritized fast first paint and readable type on mid-tier phones. Content blocks were organized so non-technical editors could update messaging without breaking layout—a common requirement for civic and utility programs that evolve with regulations.
Scope & deliverables
- Campaign landing and tiered messaging
- Resource and engagement sections
- Mobile-first responsive layout
- Editor-friendly structure for updates
Operational value
Credible public education reduces friction between policy goals and day-to-day behavior; the product goal here was clarity and sustainable operations, not headline metrics we could not verify. For similar programs, the deciding factor is usually editorial workflow plus performance on mid-tier phones, not decorative visuals.
